31 days of 19 (Angels)

Hebrews 13:1-2 (HCSB)
Let brotherly love continue.  Don't neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guest without knowing it.

Hebrews 13:1-2 (The Message)
Stay on good terms with each other, held together by love.  Be ready with a meal or a bed when it's needed.  Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it.

James 2:1
My brothers, do not show favoritism as you hold on to faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.

I live in a suburb of Houston.  It could be classified as an upper class area.  Most people who live in our neighborhoods have an abundance of things.  Many are not working to put the next meal on the table.  Our area, however, has seen changes over the past few years.  Our schools are seeing more children in need of food and clothes.  A Goodwill store recently opened up in a shopping center nearby.  Sadly, I have heard people complain about this.  Some people do not want their children going to school with children who come from homes in need.  I have even heard of a few families who are considering moving areas.

My heart breaks for everyone involved.  I know what it is like to be looked down upon for not having what others have.  As a child, I grew up in a home where money wasn't plentiful.  There were times I ate cereal for dinner because that is all we had.  My heart was no different from others.  Just because I didn't have all the material possessions, my heart was created to be loved.

I also feel sad for those who are condemning the "less fortunate".  To be so entitled must leave one so empty at the end of the day.

God does not show favoritism and neither should we.  We are commanded to love everyone, not just those who mirror us.  Angels are not always in beautiful robes.  God clothes them in rags at times.  Let's set our hearts to love all of God's children.  Please don't let socioeconomics be what determine how much love to give.  Let the love Jesus gave as He died on the cross for ALL of us swell your heart so you may love everyone you encounter.
